The Carbon Footprint Inventory Report of TPCA Show 2010
TPCA and TPCA Show 2010
Introduction
This report serves to detail the amount of GHGs generated, and released into the atmosphere, due to TPCA Show 2010. The show was organized by the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA).
About TPCA
Previously Taiwanese printed circuit board (PCB) companies had not been duly represented at international events and lacked a credible presence at international events. This situation persisted until late 1998, when the founding members of TPCA painstakingly transformed a decade-old conceptualization into the first-ever PCB trade association with hundreds of voluntary memberships industry-wide. TPCA was officially founded in March 1998.
TPCA embodies the team spirit of Taiwanese PCB firms, which explore global markets together instead of working as individual units. It integrates and mobilizes all resources available to improve the competitiveness of Taiwan’s PCB sector as a whole.
Considering the intensification of international competition, market liberalization and transparency as well as the ever-changing nature of e-commerce, TPCA offers Taiwanese PCB firms the most timely, efficient services that enhance their global marketing capabilities as part of Taiwan‘s ongoing pursuit of stable economic development.
Responsibilities and Commitments
With the issue of climate change coming under increasing scrutiny, businesses worldwide are seeking to demonstrate their GHG emission control efforts by embracing the trend of disclosing their carbon footprint. Taiwan is the world’s No. 1 PCB supplier by output, with PCBs being its third largest genre of electronic components produced and ranking only behind semiconductors and panel displays. Having recently acknowledged a growing number of customer concerns about eco-sustainability and GHG emissions, companies across the Taiwan PCB supply chain are exerting all-out efforts to meet energy efficiency requirements.
In response to the trend of GHG emission reductions, Taiwan’s PCB industry initiated a voluntary emissions reduction program that underscores its competitiveness and readiness for a green economy. Under the program, TPCA aims to:
An inherent service and consultancy provider, TPCA focuses on offering information and other forms of help to Taiwan-based PCB businesses in hopes of achieving supply chain integration. Besides organizing seminars, academic dialogues and workshops, TPCA facilitates PCB sector growth through websites and service-oriented applications that encourage information exchanges between its 500 members. It also provides free access to a vast array of documents and academic papers.
For three consecutive years since 2010, the results of Taiwanese PCB firms’ voluntary GHG emissions reduction efforts have been spotlighted at TPCA shows in order to stress the industry‘s resolve to save the planet.

Reporting objectives
This report is intended to disclose information regarding the amounts of CO2 emissions from the subject product, TPCA Show 2010, from the preparatory through exhibition stage. The disclosed data provides a basis for future GHG emissions reduction plans.
TPCA and TPCA Show 2010
Subject
The subject of this carbon footprint inventory was the TPCA-organized TPCA Show 2010, which took place at Level 1 of TWTC NANGANG Exhibition Hall for 3 days from October 20 to 22. It featured a variety of equipment, materials, technologies and applications in the respective fields of PCB production, electronics assembly, green manufacturing and thermal management. In response to growing concern on energy efficiency, TPCA organized this exhibition to familiarize buyers with green products that are energy-efficient and equipped with clean technologies.
Subject Composition
The TPCA Show can be divided into the three stages of pre-exhibition preparation, exhibition days and post-exhibition waste removal. The pre-exhibition stage involves planning and preparation for trade show operations and displays, notably the arrangements for public amenities, printed materials, transportation and advertising/marketing services. The exhibition days involve the use of venue facilities, exhibition spaces and public-access facilities; the installation of displays; waste removal; the availability of supplies, exhibit items, promotional materials; dining, transportation and accommodation requirements for staff, exhibitors and visitors. The post-exhibition stage involves the relocation of exhibit items; removal, recycling, transportation and handling of left over materials from the partitioning, design and decoration of booths. The details on the table below help to profile the TPCA Show 2010, which included 1,118 (3m×3m) booths staffed by 263 exhibitors.

Types of GHGs factored into the inventory
This report addresses GHGs listed in IPCC’s 4th evaluation report in 2007, namely CO2, methane, N2O, CFCs, PFCs, fluorinated ether, PFPE, HCs and other controlled substances mentioned in the Montreal Protocol.
