2014 Green MICE Case studies

To inspire green practices among MICE organizers, TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) established the "Green MICE Guidelines" based upon the compilation of the latest information from home and abroad who are industry experts, authorities or in academia. Priority went to the 3R principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. This approach included energy conservation, carbon-reduction and eco-friendliness. From transportation, dining, accommodations, decoration to promotional materials, the guidelines cover various aspects of green MICE to show stakeholders practical ways of reducing CO2 emissions, cutting waste and conserving valuable resources.

In 2014, all MICE organizers receiving green MICE grants/subsidies from the government were qualified to register for Green MICE incentive program sponsored by MEET TAIWAN, the winners were awarded up to NT$100,000.

Listed below are five winners in 2014; they were selected based on how their green solutions were implemented in various MICE endeavors:

The CJS organizer relied on mobile apps for communication and information distribution, reducing the amount of printed material.

The FBDA-organized Creative Jam Session (CJS) opened in July at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. To cut waste FBDA used paper cups and printed items sparingly while relying on social networking apps to arrange meetings. "Due to the hairdressing industry’s peculiarities, it is difficult to implement a fully digitized operation," said Ms. XXXX Fang, public relations representative at FBDA. "But we found that many members use their smartphones to access Facebook and LINE. In fact more people registered for CJS on Facebook than on the event website. Smartphone applications have become the main way to promote Green MICE."
