2013 TPCA and TiGiS Become Taiwan’s First Exhibitions to Comply with Green MICE Guidelines

Acknowledging the importance of environmental conservation, the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA) Show and Taiwan International Green Industry Show (TiGiS) in 2013 became Taiwan’s first exhibitions to adopt the Green MICE Guidelines that were prepared under BOFT, the Bureau of Foreign Trade, for Taiwan’s MICE Promotion Program (MEET TAIWAN) therein setting an example and paving the way for MICE operators to embrace green practices.

The TPCA Show 2013, organized under the theme “Save Our Planet with Green Dynamics”, implemented innovative and green practices in compliance with the Green MICE Guidelines. The show won extensive acclaim as the first Taiwan exhibition to obtain the BSI-issued Carbon Footprint Verification.

By its nature TiGiS is innately a “green” exhibition and a conduit through which Taiwanese companies can introduce renewable energies to ensure long-term competitiveness. In a pioneering move for Taiwan’s MICE sector, the TiGiS 2013 organizer set a new standard by using 100% recyclable/reusable modular materials for renovation of open spaces, and demonstrated practices that comply with Green MICE guidelines which reduce the impact on the environment.

The iECO Design Competition:

“The iECO Design Competition” of TPCA provides a platform for exhibitors, interior contractors and designers to build better, greener booths out of innovative and eco-sustainable materials, in hopes that more local exhibitors will eventually join the “Go Green” initiative.

The ”Green Visitor” Program:

To encourage the use of public transit and carpooling among participants, TPCA 2013 initiated a “Green Visitor” program that included a sweepstake that was joined by nearly half of all visitors. The program achieved exceptional results.

Adhering to “low-carbon” rules when choosing promotional and decoration materials:

To heighten awareness of GHG emissions control practices and to reduce shipping or deliveries of promotional materials, the organizers of TPCA and TiGiS provided QR code-bearing cardboard stand-ups to be freely displayed by exhibitors; printed invitations and brochures that used recycled paper and soy-based ink and replaced paper marketing materials (e.g., flyers and pamphlets) with electronic versions that efficiently utilized the exhibition venues’ electronic signage to avoid printing large posters or other displays.

TiGiS highlighted green industry trends across its diverse theme pavilions:

The TiGiS 2013 pavilions were dedicated to green industry-related themes such as renewable energies, wind power, water technologies, eco-friendly equipment, “plant factory” and green buildings. Government-initiated environmental efforts included those of the cabinet-level Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Taipei City’s “Low-Carbon Capital” program and New Taipei City’s “Green Energy Industry” plan. The exhibition illustrated how a public–private partnership could bolster the green sector’s business potential by combining eco-sustainable products with smart technologies.
